Where Was Peace...If Not Within Us?

The 21st of September, World Peace Day. A holiday dedicated to world peace, especially the ceasefire of war and violence for access to humanitarian aid. For many of us living in safe environments, World Peace Day would seem like nothing more than an ordinary day spent well. However for people living amidst harsh surroundings, this day is life-changing. People give up guns and violence for a day, to give humans their rights. Cannonballs are not fired, lives are not taken and people live in harmony for 24 hours.

In our hectic schedule, we worry for the future and plan accordingly, not knowing that there are people who have an uncertain present. Who knows what might happen in the next second? While we debate over the idea of ceasefire, they are getting harmed each minute. Where we have the satisfaction of safety and a sound sleep, they never know when their light nap may turn into a deep slumber. While we scrutinize our eyes and complain of standing under the bright, scorching sun for five minutes, they have been pushed into darkness where there is hardly any ray of hope. Where we talk about getting freedom on school holidays, they've lost the meaning of liberty. When we whine about not having our favorite food, they are slowly dying out of starvation.

It's time we spread harmony throughout the world. We, who are lucky enough to consider ourselves from secure nations, have the power and opportunity to share our happiness with those who are less fortunate. It's time to bring peace, and share peace.

Not just for 24 hours, but for years to come!

Let's give humans their rights!
